Recover Your Lost or Deleted Content

November 11th, 2009 | Posted in Help, Rest of Internet, Web Design/WordPress

It may have happen to you that while editing some file you deleted some file accidentally or with your blog that some pages might have been deleted accidentally. This happens to all – sometime by mistake and sometime having less time and wanting quick work done.

So, when there is a problem – there has to be a solution for it. Therefore the simple solution to this issue is:

When Content Lost
Because if something is deleted from the server its usually a long process to recover – contacting your hosting company and asking for previous backups – and installing them over again – and because the lost are not the web pages but they are just the single page or something one or two file.

Therefore, getting complete backup to reinstall is not a wise idea. The wiser way is to search for that page in the Google cache – Yes it’s the simplest way to get the old content again. I myself have done this many times and every time I found the content on Google cache.

But the point to keep in consideration is – search the lost content quickly because if you wait for two-three days then chances are less to get that content – as Google bot crawls your missing link and replaces with the cached content.

Not True in Other Cases
This might not be true with many other cases where your coding is lost (PHP coding) – you can’t get those PHP codes.

Else way, for each accidentally deleted content; – Google cache is helpful.

Simple Guide for Server Migration or Transfer

October 27th, 2009 | Posted in Rest of Internet, Web Design/WordPress

One of the topics that mostly attract my attention on Webmaster forum is about site migration. Users that post threads about migration of one server to other are often confused and don’t know the procedure that how it is been done.

This post is a simple guide to all those migration issues. For cPanel users you have to do the following for site transfer.

Step One
Login to your cPanel and find the backup icon – which you can find on the homepage of cPanel. Click on backup.

Step Two
After the backup page opens – just see the “Home Directory” and click on it to begin downloading. After this has finished or along with it depending on your Internet speed click on the “Databases” it will also begin downloading.

After the both files (zips) have been downloaded – Login to your new cPanel where you have to transfer the files.

Repeat the Step One procedure and after the backup page opens.

Step Three
On the right of “Home Directory” option you will find a “browse” button – just browse the downloaded “home directory” file – select it and press the “upload” button.

Same thing is to be done for “Databases” – and when the two zips have been uploaded to the new server.

Open the “configuration file” of your website – this you can browse after returning to the home of cPanel and clicking “File Manager” just browse to the location of your configuration file for your system.

Common examples or filenames for configuration file is:
# Config.php
# Database.php
# Db.php
And commonplace you can find these files are “include” folder or the home folder of the website.

Edit the database details depending on the new server. One thing you have to make is the new database username – Which you can do by clicking on MySQL Database link on the home page of cPanel.

Last Step
This is all – you have done all. As wordpress installation says – were you expecting more steps – sorry to disappoint you.

Website Design and SEO

May 26th, 2009 | Posted in SEO Talk, Web Design/WordPress

When it comes to designing a website – a particular designer gives the whole lot of things and makes site look wonderful to human eye and his client and on the other hand makes some trick to reduce the work for himself – nothing harm in it every one does the same.

But when the client is required to have SEO version of his website it becomes difficult for the designer to take this into consideration. Therefore there are few options available, which can be looked if you are a designer or if you are the client who gives contract to design the site.

Things To Watch
When you are keen about getting the SEO version of your site then you need to take care of some basic things – you don’t have to be genius in programming languages but you need to take care of few things.

  1. Meta tags should be there – as when it’s a static site with no updates at all in very near future it is always good to have Meta-tags to give a defining statement of your website in search.
  2. No iFrames – even if you don’t know programming or HTML just view the source code of webpage by right clicking on it and search for iframe and if its there – remove it. iFrames are the real killer for the website in terms of SEO.
  3. Keep a Check – that the individual pages should have individual URLs. Best in terms of SEO.

There are few more things to watch but for the initial work you need to keep a check on these three only.

Conclude
Only think logically and you will come to know what is going wrong with your website. Also don’t forget to ask for creating sitemap for Google and submitting your site to Google.

Avoid Common Web Site Design Mistakes

November 18th, 2008 | Posted in Web Design/WordPress

Here is a great tip that can help you avoid a very common mistake made by many inexperienced web site designers. This can make a big difference in how professional your site is perceived.

A common mistake made by many when using background images, especially those backgrounds with a colored left spine is that you are often only viewing the page in the screen resolution to which your monitor is set. I’ve seen page after page where there is a blue spine down the left side, with the center of the page having black text on a white background.

The problem arises when you are looking at your page in screen resolution of only 800×600, which is the most common screen resolution used today. While it is the most common, if you are using a 17″ monitor, you should be using 1024×768 screen resolution, and on a 19″ monitor you should be using 1280×1024 screen res. These are the screen resolution people with larger monitors use on a day-to-day basis.

If your background image is only 800 pixels wide, it may look great on your screen, but what you don’t see is that the blue spine on the left side will start repeating at pixel 801. On a larger monitor, people see the blue spine about 75% of the way across the screen and your black text is now running through that part of the blue spine making your text unreadable.

This primarily occurs on web sites that are using variable width design. In other words the text spacing resizes depending on the resolution of your screen. On websites designed using fixed width tables, this becomes less of an issue. It is very important you check your page in many different screen resolutions.
